Typical of so many high wind days, it was 20 when I left home and 15 by the time I hit the water. The 7.0 and 135L board wasn’t even enough. The only entertainment was watching the huge carp splashing all along the shore (who planted them at Grants). Good time for patience. Shortly after 9:00 it came up almost instantaneously for wild ripping rides on the 7.0/115L then same on the 6.0/86L. It was still blowing when I left at 12:45 although it was pretty up and down. Would have liked to have stayed but 2 solid days have taken their toll on the body. There were at least 9 sailors enjoying the fun including John, Josh, Mike, Steve, Steve, Duane, etc. Got to love Grants.

Haven't been out on Utah water for a month so I was stoked to sail my 5.6 for 3 hours.
Keep the wind coming!!!

Ken, just wondering if you would comment on sailing conditions on a North wind at Grants? Thanks!

Dave:
North doesn't seem to work at Grantsville Res.
The theory is the wind comes up the hill and then up the dam and jumps over the reserviour.
Where the opposite happens on the south. The wind comes down the hill into the reserviour.

As a storm approaches the wind typically turns from south to south west and then west.
With the topography the wind gets very holee when the wind comes from the west.
I picture it like an eddie in the flow occassionally allowing big gusts through.

During the morning south flow the wind feels the most steady when straight south.

From my experience the best wind there seems to accompany clear blue skies.
Remember to bring your cheap sunglasses because you will sail directly into the morning sun.
