8/23 Grants 5.2m / 4.7m - 112L / 85L

Rock and roll at Grants this morning. Started a little calm (relatively speaking), Patrick and I rigged 5.2's. Big strong gusts encouraged me to rig a 4.7, would have rigged a 4.2 but forgot my 370 mast. Patrick stayed on his 5.2 (nuts....), but he was flying around the pond. About 10:30 it started to get weird, with higher gusts. Wingers blasting around on small stuff, everyone at one time was dialed in, but not for long. Josh showed up and rigged a 4.4(?), as I left he was getting his money's worth! Wild day at Grants, when I left the meter showed 37-48... plenty of wind.

Thanks for the post, John! Sounds like an epic morning. Great to hear wingers and sailors ripping out there in the fierce winds.

Once I saw the wind meter gusting over 50 mph, I imagined it was chaos. I could see the schoolkids in Grantsville racing out onto the playgrounds at lunchtime and stopping in their tracks, puzzled by the blimpy wings, flapping windsurf sails and the occasional board floating by high overhead...
