What to buy

I am checking out all the usual sources and haven't found the Foretrex. Most carry the Etrex and Forerunner models. Do all these do the things we want them for?

is the correct way to use motionbased.com?

If it is then click on "Jason speed run"
http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/user/martywlowe

Jason went faster than he thought. 43.4mph

I've had a Forerunner 201 for 3 years now, and it USUALLY works very well as a windsurfing speedometer/odometer; occasionally it's unable to "lock in" on the satellites, and I lose a session. Until this year I'd just strap it to my wrist and go. However, after a session a couple of weeks ago, I noticed condensation at the edges of the display. Since then, I've been wearing it in a waterproof bag that straps to my wrist and have had no further condensation problems. Garmin has a couple of newer (and, alas, considerably more expensive models, 205/305) that are a bit smaller and are claimed to have better antennas.

I also have an eTrex (older than the Forerunner) and it, too, works, but speed is displayed in very small print, which I find almost impossible to read while I'm sailing.

Maybe this is a direct link to Jasons speed run.

Post if it doesn't work.

36.8 for me today,,,
http://trail.motionbased.com/trail/activity/2712297

but I was being passed by Jason and Jake.

This is kinda fun,,
ripping through the butter on the lee side of the "island".
hearing the board "hummmmmmmm".

It's all about the board, for me right now.
I never did feel maxed with out feeling like it was gonna blow up.
I need to narrow my stance, and maybe use an older board I have,
that has less grip and smaller fins.
Maybe wake bindings?

I took out my GPS to Burmester to see what I could clock in the high winds. Ended up with 31.6 mph. It seemed like the kite would slow me down after around 30 mph. I think my highest speed on the snow was 34.8, but I only used the GPS a few sessions.

Mike

I am not sure I want to encourage people to go that fast on dirt. Crazy.
On a small 3.0 sail and mountain board I can hit 20 and that is it.
My trucks won't let me go faster then that. I don't think I want to go faster then that.

anyway I have been meaning to go try out burmester. Google earth makes that place look amazing for landboarding.

The great thing about Burmester is that if you do crash and burn, you usually end up just getting muddy. The ground is soft if you hit it hard enough. I still like to keep things on the ground.

New GPS Results Page.

This will take me a week or so to get it moving smoothly.

there should be a lot of links and info.

GPS info

speed sailing links

articles

results (as you see now)

and some rules to the annual local contest.

If you think there is any info that should be included please tell me.

Motionbased does not support my new GPS

Postby Sarah Ranes » Sat Jun 09, 2007 8:42 am

At least MB does not show it in their supported list. For now I'm going to try RealSpeed, that was suggested with my Locosys GT-11. Hopefully I'll have it working soon.
If anyone has other suggestions, please post them.
