Lake Creek Update 11/11

Officially one foot of snow at my house at 7000 feet. I'm guessing there is 16-20 inches at Upper Lake Creek.

The road up to the snowmobile parking area is bare and the gate is open. I talked to a guy in a Dodge Durango with no snow tires; he went about 1/2 way up before he turned around, and guessed my rig would have a good chance of making it all the way up. Skies are supposed to clear starting at 11 am and there is 16-17 mph wind forecast all day WNW. I'll probably give it a shot tomorrow. The risk, of course, is that we can't make it to the top, and waste a perfectly good day at Skyline, but coverage at Skyline could be sparse and I'm not so sure about the wind direction at Pow Mow Tomorrow.

Thoughts?

The coverage at Strawberry might be ok and since the water level is so low, most of the CC east is kite-able if the wind direction is right. What's the call for Strawberry?

Chris,

PowMow is looking like west wind right now, but I would take a look at the meter before heading out. As far as Lake Creek is concerned, it is all about clearance. The wind should be good.

Leo,

Strawberry needs at least 2 feet of heavy snow to cover the sage. Perhaps, this storm was enough, but I would be surprised. A look at the UDOT camera will be telling.

Andy,

Thay looked kind of sparse on the cameras, but a local PC resident could give us a better report.

I think the PC fields will be rideable because you're just hitting grass below the snow. But you can only drive to Lake Creek once or twice a year, so I think I'll go there first and if I can't summit, maybe PC or even Strawbs to kill a pair of skis and then burn them as an offering.

I'll try to post here tomorrow by noon if I have reception at Lake Creek for onsite reporting. If you go to Lake Creek, bring a tow line and a shovel!
