A Week of kiteboarding in Cabarete

Had good wind in Cabarete rode 7 - 10M most days. Did fly the 21M one day or it would have been a bust. Water was super warm and the waves were small, but still a lot of fun for a flatlander. Saw a few sailors out there, but kiters have overtaken the scene. Two of my children (age 21 and 15) took kite lessons. I am really glad that I put them in lessons, the approach was very methodical and they made a lot more progress than they would have made if I were teaching them.

Where did you stay? Did you do an encuentro downwinder? Kite Beach the whole time? Was Orlando killing it?

Chris,
I stayed at Cabarete Beach Houses. I kited from the beach in front of my hotel which is between kite beach and Cabarete. No downwinders this time as I was with the Fam. I am not sure who Orlando is, but the Dominican Kids were killing it as usual.

Nice!
If you ever go back my wife's family owns a great place beachfront at Olas de Oro #22.(
http://olasdeorovillas.com/) It is right on Bozo beach (in between Cabarete and Kite beach, next to the Millenium hotel). It can be rented for pretty cheap.
Anyway, I am new to the Utah kiting scene. Only been once to DC and am currently figuring out my gear situation before I can go again. I've only been kiting in the DR and in Key West and still consider myself a beginner but would like to meet other folks around here that I can go and hang out with.
Hopefully I'll meet you guys out there sometime.
Cheers,
Morgan

Did you bring down your own gear or just rent there? What have you found is the best way to transport a lot of kites and a board or two? Fun trip!

Travis,
I haul my own gear.
I use a NSI Golf Bag for my boards. I brought 2 boards. I use a large Jansport Rolling Duffel bag as well. I hauled 5 kites - 21, 11, 10, 7, and a 6m. The 6m was for my kids. Jet Blue will allow a bag up to 50 LBS. I used my bathroom scale and packed 49 LBS of gear in each bag. I brought a lot of extras for my children.
There are plenty of places to rent, but the rental rates are high enough that the only thing I might consider renting is a wave board.
