7/7 Rush Iffy wind 21m
The indicators looked good when I left home, but I think some monsoonal clouds in the south part of Rush Valley dampened the winds. I rode with my 21M foil and Spleene Monster Door 164 x 50 for the first hour and planed about 90% of the time. The deal with the door is that it keeps me planing through most lulls, but it is a real handful when the wind picks up and since I took the fins off it is a bugger to land when jumping. The wind picked up a tad and I went to my Xenon 138 Rayo. It was fun for about an hour. Marc with his 17M and a directional board went out for a brief spin while I was on the Rayo, but it was not enough wind to keep him going. The wind lightened up again and it was back to the Monster Door for another hour. You may wonder why I stuck around so long in such light conditions. For thing, the wind had enough gust to it, that some of the reaches were fast and I was able to jump even if my landings were often a mess. Second, the water was absolute glass at times.
A couple interesting things that I observed. 1. There was a prism effect in the clouds similar to a rainbow that lasted for about 15 minutes. 2. A hang glider took off from the Bar and ended up landing on the far side of Rush. I guess it wasn't enough wind for him either. It must have been a real pain for him to get that glider out of there. Goes to show that there are much worse things than rolling up a kite when the wind drops.
