8/25 Sunday, Little Dell, 5.3/4.7 putt-putt

We went up to Little Dell to practice some light wind putting around, jibes/tacks. No whitecaps, although an 8.0 and big floaty board would likely have gotten planing at times. Just wanted to let everyone know that it is still there and a great spot for light and occasional med wind sailing. Ya gotta have a dry steamer/drysuit on for water quality reasons, but that's fine as the days are cooling off a bit. Had a nice brief discussion with the DNR officer up there and, while SUPs continue to not be allowed, windsurfing (with the above garments) is fine.

Since we began rowing up there, in search of calm water, I've been amazed at how often I actually see whitecaps. Wouldn't you know it - bring rowing stuff in search of glass and get wind. Bring windsurfing gear and get glassy conditions. I've actually been up there with BOTH sets of gear, (which is pretty silly looking) didn't get to use both, but didn't get skunked either! Upslope breezes start about 10:30-11:00 and continue till about 6:00.

September is historically the month when strong-ish downslope early AM winds can happen. But hard to catch. The upslopes are there all the time, seemingly best on a west flow, with good thermal conditions of cool nights, hot days.
