Tuesday, 9.26, DC Island Beach, 6.5 on up
George W was on it early, getting the goods when I arrived around 3:30, on what looked like 7.5 and Carve 131. I rigged Formula and headed out at 4. There was a westerly component that let you pinch hard toward the dam on port tacks. Could have been a good day for a run but, unlike the past few sessions, it was a bit less solid, probably because of the west influence. After bragging about how smooth the thermal has been it wasn't the killer cadillac rides but apparently smooth enough for Spencer and crew to kite. Tell Jason.
Angie and Paul showed up late. Angie got 6.5ish rides.
Although the wind was a tad holey it was more up than anything and it has been reassuring to see how absolutely solid the wind can be over the past few rides at DC, (see Sarah's post too). Hopefully there will be another smooth one this weekend for us working stiffs. Saturday even looks like a possibility since it's post Labor Day and the bulk of the madding crowds are going to be Christmas shopping or something. The lake is so pleasantly free of significant motorized traffic at this point.
Cross your fingers, watch the temperature gradient and falling barometer. It's all good, and still quite warm. By the way, my board shorts are retired for the duration; the shortie suit was more than enough, even a little hot. So get out and do it. Alf would go. So would Eddie.
