We sailed powered to o.p. on 6.0's /95ltr. from about 2 ish until 630 as the puffs got bigger and more sustained and the lulls got shorter. Could have been on the 5.0 at the end of the day but too tired to keep going. Clean, warm water, decent 3'+ swells . Kiters were ripping and launching. My expereince is that it needs to be a BIG/High Wind Alert south wind day and have pushed through to the Brigham City airport for it to be working at Willard and when it does Willard is hard to beat. Ogden was reporting 25mph when we left SLC around 1.

I couldn't believe the small sails everyone was rigging.
No wonder everyone was slogging all day.
You seemed to be the only sailor not sloggin most of the time.
If I were sailing, I would have been on 5.7-6.5

I was trying to keep up with you. to bouncy in the swell.
(or you just thought "gotta get away from the crazy kiter")

This Willard POE meter is kinda new, and kinda helpful.

What plesent surprise Willard was for this Newbie... I had a great time.. It was a nice to sail with some windsurfers since we rarely see them at the "kite Spots".... Some of the guys where killing it on there pole boards... Such fun!!!!!

Lol We arrived too early .. or too late.. Wind was solid from 10:00 to noon.. Marc and I were there at that time, minutes before it dropped 6-8mph : rigged small hoping it was gonna go the other way!.. 15' later it was down to 6.0 weather... If I was smart I would have rerigged but I got lazy

That was a fun day, great to sail with you and the guys! you know the old indian addage "rig for the lulls" and "never leave wind to find wind". I just try to keep a wide berth to stay out of everyones way, except Brian and Mr. N , whom I try to run over. Do you know where that Willard wind meter is located? maybe that would be a good one to add to the windsurfing favorites weather links on this site??

Willard POE meter is Point of Entry station, mile or two north.

I was stuck at home and couldn't make it to Willard. I did get to watch with envy on the web cam. Here is a link to the grainy pics I took. At times when the wind wasn't shakin the cam it would focus pretty good, just not long enough to take a good pic.

What size kites were people on at Willard? Sounds like a great session.

From The POE meter, it looks like it blew good from 10AM to noon, then backed off a notch, until 5PM, then picked back up until dark with frontal passage about 7:30 PM.

Morning: low 20's to 30's, Afternoon: high teens to 20's.

Can anyone give a blow by blow of kite sizes or sail sizes?

Rush Lake (Penny's) was reading in the high teens to high 20's early, slowly increasing all day into the mid 20's to 30's in the afternoon. People started with 13M kites and then it was all 9M and 10M kites with one 7M until 2PM when everyone quit. Whit

The wind average on my meter was 19mph over 6 hour peroid.
Doug on his 9M. I was on my 11M. Jason, just a little overpowered sometimes, on his 15M. Jeff 13M C, Jake, Billy, Brian,
and one other kiter that would be in big trouble if his wife knew he was there....
Dougs work buddy, newbie, did body drag from Island to beach.

I love high wind kiting 9M, 7M, but Willard probably won't give up that kind of wind very often. IMHO
Knowing how gusty Rush probably was, I would assume Willard was probably not as gusty.
Just would be nice if it happened more there.
