I got up early and was surprised by the light Grantsville wind on the Mesonet. Still, I was sure it would blow so I got there by 6:30. There were already a few whitecaps so I rigged my new 7.0 Retro. It was a little frustrating until I got the right equipment. I started on the Carve135 with a 52cm fin, made 2 trips, switched to the 40cm fin, made 2 trips I finally rigged the S115. By then the windlines were very strong. By 9:00 I had to switch to the 6.0 and had some wild rides on the Sonic85 in the pole winds of 20-30. By the time the North thermal started slowing the winds John Freed was calling and suggesting Sulfur. I derigged the 3 boards and 2 sails I had laying on the beach and went ripping for Evanston.

When we got to Sulfur it was covered with whitecaps. Some of the windlines were into the 30’s but you needed a little larger sail to get around in the lulls. I rigged a very flat 6.0 and John and Rick went with flat 5.7’s and we had some very wild rides never knowing what was going to hit next. The winds were as good as Memorial Day except there were no clouds. I had the GPS on but I don’t think we will set records at Sulfur. I got lots of runs above 31 but it took everything I had to bash the Sonic85 through the chop and get to 32.8 mph.

It was 2 great sessions in one day but my body is trashed. I figure I was on the water +6 hours. When I left at 5:45 John was still ripping across the lake.
