Light a first then it built to ok small board action. Really the only reason I am posting is to give mad props to the Utah Kite crew!

Over 25 kites in the air and almost no riders at the level of the local crew!!!

I was shock at the riders with egos on the beach and no skills in the water!

I had a great time riding but sure missed having the boys to play with!

I rode around the island and found some great flat water with a hand full of pole boarders on plane I made a few reaches with them before returning to the crowded spot!

Returned to the beach and threw down for a hour then called it a day.

Sure missed the crew!

I'm headed down to San Diego in 2 weeks. Fill me in on any details I should know other then to bring my light wind kites and boards.

What part of Mission bay did you launch from?

Today I flew from feista Island super nice sandy launch with 25+ other kiters lined up along the beach!

It seems like Belmount or long beach are better spots but over 1:30 drive away!

Today I had some local yelling at me as I was reaching so I headed more up wind to hear him , only to discover he was telling me how was on a starboard reach and I needed to move, You got that right I headed upwind.... so I was the down wind kiter but this cat wanted to yell at me??? so there is some socal additude here.?.

But when talking to some of the locals they boasted what a great day it was and it only blew 14mph so.... well you know it was light and they all said it was sick for a summer day. i really hoped to ride some surf while I was here but that apparantly only happens in the winter.

So I have been surfing in the AM and Kiting(or waiting to Kite) in the PM.

I have been using linburg feild as my indactor and also mission bay High school on weater bug. It seems to work out and I have been on of the first few kiters on spot each day.

Good luck and bring your biggest kite and board. The water is Board short warm. I hope you have a great time here it is very nice but the summer dooldrums happen here also.

There are also some great Kite windsurfing shops in the area. I have been going to a shop on sports arena boulevard own by this cat vic, I have been shoping there for over a decade and still cant recall the name. Great info though if you find it.

Also the guys at Cali kites on coronda Island are cool, If you mention you kite skyline in the winter they really warm up.

Try going to Silver Strand today. It is down by Imperial Beach(just north). You can kite in the ocean with a few small waves, not much swell today. Yesterday it blew 16 gust to 19. Lindbergh read 16mph, that is the best indicator, you want NW flow there. For better wind and surf, I saw Sunset Beach, up north of Huntington Beach blew in the 20's yesterday. Whit

I used to live in San Diego. Wind there is always light (14 is really rare) except during the occasional winter storm. The best sailing in Socal is Cabrillo beach up near Long Beach. It often blows 15-20 there and sailing is on the ocean. The drive is about 90 minutes (with luck) from SD. It's a zoo on the weekends though, often no parking for miles. Check iWindsurf.com for directions, etc.

Also, if you're based in SD, a trip to San Carlos in Baja is worth the effort. What an excellent ocean sailing spot!
