Schofield Res - Wind without Sails.

Looked at the bunk forecast so I left my kites in the garage and went out for a weekend of four-wheeling, exploring and kayaking. Found myself at Schofield Res on Sunday where the wind was cranking, all flags straight out. Skies were clear above, but I believe a front over Strawbs was drawing the wind to it... otherwise it was just coming out of nowhere like a bat out of hell. But it stayed steady for at least a couple of hours.

Looking at the geography tho, it could be a standard mountain phenomenon. Schofield sits in the middle of a mountain valley that runs parallel between two ranges, all the way from the heart of Skyline and rolling down hill to hwy 6. The south flow that rolls over Skyline daily, may just funnel right over Schofield.

The only other wind riding I know of here is Mike Rossberg who took iceboards out there way back in the day, like 01' I believe.

I'll be heading up there more often to see...any one else have experience at Schofield?

Well... I'm not kidding here... I went on a fishing trip with my friend's family in 1980 something and we brought sailboards... We were going to go to fish lake but they decided in the last minute to go to Scofield reservoir instead.

We busted out our Bic Dufor Wings and sailed two days in a row. Even catching a couple of trout while trolling behind them! Ah, the good ol' days... Actually we had some pretty good wind on that trip. I don't recall how strong. As back then, it was either On or Off!
