Ok. I know you're all laughing at me for posting a wind log of my killer session on my 2m trainer...but I'm gonna do it anyway.

This is the second time I've ridden the sailboat beach parking lot with my inline skates, and it's a lot of fun. It doesn't take a lot of power to get moving on the pavement, so I was able to focus more on timing the kite movement with my tacks...which I had to do a lot of.

Anyway, if you're a beginner or you have a friend that wants to try kiting, I think this is a good step to feeling the wind actually pull you. It's a very different feeling to just fighting the wind while you stand still.

Josh,

I would be laughing if I hadn't done it before... It really is a great way to learn real control of a kite imho! I actually did it back when Kenji was giving me a couple of kiting lessons on the water... But I did it down at the E center parking lot... It really helped quite a bit. When I tried it on the snow I could feel that I had quite an advantage as far as the initial feel of control. Especially with the feel of turning, swinging the kite to the inside of the radius (at least for beginner stuff... ps I'm still a beginner ;) )

Of course, I was padded up to the hilt, elbows, knees, helmet, gloves... But actually never had a fall. It felt pretty safe... And one of the days it was blowing very strongly... Although, I don't know if I'd ever want to get lofted on blades! I did try a couple of little hops, and felt sketccchy! Used a 2 meter sling shot foil...

i wouldn't laugh at you, i'd join you! bill and i used to get the trainer (2M slingshot) and do laps in the parking lot at lincoln beach. its a lot of fun and really makes you think about whats going on. plus you learn balance and positioning of the board. i think there was even an article in one of the kiteboarding magazines about doing this very thing. we are all on skateboards though... time to drop the skates and get on a skateboard!

yeah, yeah...and drop the skis and learn to snowboard too, right  I've thought about learning to ride a board, but I've just got so much experience on skis. I can't bring myself to start over.

i don't know about that josh! i'm still on skis and am a huge ski advocate. i still might get on the board this year though. kite skiing just seems so awkward, but it's what i know and i know it well.

Mike,

The skis are a bit awkward in deep powder, but they are superior on hardpack. I don't know how some of the riders can go for hours riding on hardpack with a snowboard.

I take the snowboard for the pow and skis for the hardpack. That way I have the best of both worlds.
