5/11, Grantsville, 85L, 6.0
We arrived at Grantsville Saturday morning to the expected light north wind. But we brought two grandkids for a camping trip so there was plenty of fun to be had. The wind woke us up at 4:00 Sunday morning. I wanted to start rigging at dawn but the motor home was only 50 degrees so I cranked the heater up and crawled out at 7:00. The wind was great. I sailed the 6.0 from 7:45 to noon using the little Sonic 85 for some ripping rides. From 9:15 to 10:30 I could have been on a 5.0 but I knew there wasn’t time to re-rig. Jim and Mike were rigging by the time I hit the water and several others showed up. Sarah and Linda were waiting for Mona to crank up so they showed up late but still caught some good rides. I had hoped for some afternoon rides but Burmester was north by noon and Grantsville followed an hour later. I am glad we didn’t wait around because I don’t think it came back until 7:00. It was a great Mother’s day with Penny and my Grandkids and some great sailing for icing on the cake. The only downer is how fast the lake is going down. Last year was a poor snow winter and Grants filled up through the fence. This year we had great snowfall and Grants didn’t get anywhere close to filling. It is at the level now where it was at the end of June last year.
