Utah Lake NorthWest Side 5-14-2008
Well I left my office around 2 oclock and met Mike Egan. I rigged my 8.0 and my big beginner board Bic Nova 165 with a 60 cm racing fin. Mike rigged a 7.5 sailworks and used his 120 liter exocet. Really good powered rides for about an hour and a half.
This was a first time for me on a wide board with a big powered sail. It really gave me a challenge dealing with the power. The rig planned very quickly and with the big fin I could point in almost any direction. The board didn't act much like a beginner board which makes me very impressed with it.
So I tried going up wind to see if I could make it to the top of the lake but after my first big reach the wind started backing off so I headed back down to the launch slogging most of the way.
I did remove at least one carp from the lake with that big deadly fin. Almost sent me over the handle bars.
Carl, there are reeds floating around in the water but not enough to warrant a weed fin. You should be more concerned about finding rocky point north.
