Checked the mesonet when I was driving through Gville town at 6:30 and was stoked to see it still gusting to 30. Geoward was there when I and the sun arrived (love that license plate, like "westward" or "windward" but geo-ward, in the direction of geo, like all geography where fun is and also the George himself). We faithfully rigged 6.6 through some shockingly dead lulls, but not to fear, by the time I hit the water at 7:15, it was slowly but steadily filling in. George explained his "dual wind" theory about competing winds that don't mesh and create turbulence and dead air. I like his theory. The lulls seemed to coincide with more westerly direction and cleaner stronger air with more southerly. And, the more the sun came up the southerly won out and we got rippin' rides. And I saw rainbows behind my board on starboard reaches! George and I had the lake to ourselves. I got some spectacular hooting crashes on the west side trying to hold on to the bigger gusts while trying some new-fangled jibe variation. Went into one jibe at 25 knots but had my big toe hanging over the carving rail and decellerated so fast I buried the rail and rag dolled at full speed. Nice water to crash in. With 2.5 hours of powered sailing and less than 2 of driving, it's a winner.

I spend 24 hours tomorrow in airplanes and airports and the image of George blowing by me giving me da shaka at full blast will keep me sane.
