October surprise - decent wind at DC on a chilly day when the National Weather Service was predicting something like 6 from the North. A light breeze appeared out of the SW about 12:30, gradually strengthening over the next 7 hours, with a peak of 22 mph at about 7:45. By the time I got on the water at about 4:45 there was enough wind for fairly consistent planing with big gear. Water temp at the launch site measured 57 (air 47 at about 7 PM).
