7/17 DC Island: REAL dummies sail DC

Well, that may be a little harsh, but trying to sail DC when the wind along the Wasatch Front (and even in Midway!) is out of the North is not a sign of great intelligence. Knowing this, I held out as long as I could, but eventually the siren song of the wind wore me down. Got to the beach at about 2:30 and was greeted by the unexpected sight of a couple of powered-up windsurfers enjoying what appeared to be pretty steady breeze. Looked like 6.0 - until I pulled the 6.0 out of the bag, by which time it was starting to look a lot more like 7.2, or maybe 8.5. Anyway, the 7.2 yielded lots of schlogging occasionally interrupted by a short planer. But at least the company was good, featuring old-timers George Ulmer, Tim Snyder and George Ward, accompanied by Andrea and young son Stone, who should have a bright future in windsurfing if big sister Tiffany is anything to go by.

That'll teach ya to trust your senses rather than your forecaster ;*)
