12/21 Pow Mow/Monte Cristo 13M Frenzy

Went to Pow Mow and @ 1030 the wind was reading 31 mph at the lift. With the storm blowing in I figured that 31 mph was too much to start with and then have the winds increase. I went to Monte Cristo hoping they had enough snow cover. The wind was actually a lot less than I expected given the blowout at Pow Mow.The sage is sticking up pretty good in most places but I was able to make some desperation kite passes. I was there for about 1 1/2 hours before Marty showed up on his snowmobile. The wind had slacked off about then and I was getting ready to leave. Marty was going to check out the kiting up by Curtis creek on top of Monte. This next storm should be all that we need for adequate coverage at both Pow Mow and Monte.

I kited powder mt. yesterday from about 1- 4:00 pm and ya it was nuking...pretty lit up on a 10m frenzy. Coverage was sparse in spots but its also pretty deep in spots. I agree that this next storm should fill everything in. Kited Monte the day before that and it wasnt the best coverage. The wind was blowing pretty hard tho and I'm super excited for it to get filled in! I haven't kited Logan canyon yet but I've been up there in the backcountry and there should be plenty of coverage after the storm today.

The wind was sweet 18-22 on top,,,,
but the coverage wasn't there,,
I could have kited a couple of small patches of powder.
The ridges just north of GPS marker 13 on the map below looks promising
