Arrived at around 6pm - 2 kites up and several windsurfers barely moving. We all go to know each other on the beach for a while waiting for wind. At 6:30 the kiters started to get rides and then around 7 the wind came in - but very up and down. Fully powered on a 6.9 for a few reaches, and then the holes had me fighting to stay up on the 100 ltr board. I wonder if the weatherman knew how many windriders he frustrated yesterday.

Peter - I think it was you that left your bar and lines on the beach - you were on the green Waroo. I have them and live in Orem. Let me know when you want to pick them up.

How is the rigging area, and launching for WS? What is close to shore area like?

I came a little late to rig and give it a shot so I took some pictures. I got a couple good ones of the kites and a few good ones of the wind surfers as they slowly sailed toward shore. I will post those here in the next day.

Rod, Before you arrived there were a couple of gust rides, but by the time you were getting setup I was giving up. Then as soon as I finished packing it in, it started to blow That’s ok though, as a new guy it was all good. Even slogging leaves me satisfied. The green kite was Peter, he is THE regular at Lindon Beach. He seems to always be there when I go (around twice per week). I have talked to him before about UWA and he indicated he didn’t use or visit it for what ever reason. Hopefully he will find out about his bar and lines somehow.

Sarah, About Lindon beach. Lots of rigging space, kind of sort of sandy, not too rocky, sand/mud just offshore with the occasional stone someone threw into the water to stub your toe on. Its easy to get to (close to home for me) and FREE!, but get your tetanus shot. I have found a couple of rusty nails the hard way. Also you can smell the Sewer treatment plant when its stirring up (a few miles to the north). Giving adequate warning that the wind is coming up! It is not an easy kite launch. Someone decided to put picnic tables in the worst possible locations as far as kite lines go. Right now the water level is high. But as the lake level drops it can be a bit of a walk to get your gear to the water. Too bad they locked up access to the road. I used to be able to drive right to the water 15 years ago when I sailed before. Wish I had the key.

The launch at Lindon Beach is better than it has been for quite a while. The city or county has been doing quite a bit of work the past year or two. There is a parking lot across the road (gravel) where you can rig next to your car - or you can carry your gear down to the beach. The area was expanded quite a bit and sand was brought in on the expanded area where there are picnic tables and pavilions. They also built stairs and a wheelchair type ramp down the hill to the beach. The water is high and comes all the way up to the new sandy area now.

Shawn is right about nails and stuff in the water. I usually bring water shoes and wear them while wading out to launch and then stick them in the back of my harness to ride. There are lots of nails and I have seen broken bottles in the area that is now underwater - the junk does tend to sink down in the dirt, but it is a risk going barefoot.

My son did an Eagle project there last October and cleaned up the sand of all the trash and fire pits. We sifted nails and fire remains and had it looking pretty nice - with the nicer weather now people are again having fires in the sand. We might have to do a followup soon. There is a big sign saying no fires, but it appears to be ignored. If they are not going to enforce the fire ban, maybe they should build some fire rings to keep the fires in place.

So I had hoped to post the pictures I took sooner but better late than never right? Here are the handful that I took 2 weeks ago at Lindon Beach. The wind was too light for the wind surfers when I got there but as mentioned was picking up as the night went on. I am not sure who everyone is and it was getting a bit dark for the pics to be super clear to recognize people. But fun anyway to snap a few shots.
