Grants, June 4 Thur., 6.0M
I had watched the wind all morning and all I saw was 25 mph easterly on the Salt Lake. When I got there at 3:00 it was 11 to 28 mph. What do you rig for that? I chose the red board with the matching red sail. That made about as much sense as anything else I could think of. By the time I hit the water I caught a near 40 mph gust that had the 6.0 begging for mercy. A few minutes later I had to wait 10 minutes for some more wind. Lots of tail walking and schlogging. Still, there were plenty of screaming reaches to make it an exciting though not comfortable after work sesh. I quit at 6:00 after surviving another 40mph gust. The water is through the fence in the middle and there is almost no place to put gear on the water side of the fence. There are a lot of fishermen lining the shores too. I pick my parking place now by picking the spot with the widest space between chairs.
