Short but fun session on Piute res. Post frontal winds blew from the north all Saturday. Wind was light but steady with a few large holes.

Excellent Kite potential, huge open beaches. Very rocky, not sandy, yet drops off to waist deep and deeper within 5-30 feet of the shore. Best part is one can camp anywhere on the shore for free.

The ranger recommended fishing in the morning & afternoon, as it gets windy between 10am and 4pm daily.....hhmmmm. He was advising boaters to watch out for the mid day wind and waves....maybe he's just anxious because of the recent Utah lake boat accident.

Definitely worth planning more journeys down to Piute and Otter Creek (sister res). Otter has nice huge sand bars.

Oh yeah, great for all sailors. Big Question is How often is it windy, and how strong or consistent? I have limited local weather info, and it takes a drive down there to correlate any info. Need a wind meter on the lake.

Time to call the state park service about a wind meter there. It will be good for boaters (so that they can avoid high wind) and for us so that we can use the high wind.

Danger D has more Piute experience than anyone I know. I'll ask him tomorrow after our
1st 4.7 sesh at the Hackery and report back if he knows anything.

Spoke with D last night about Piute. Typical of other Utah lakes it can get strong wind
from the South prefrontal, and from the North postfrontal (sometimes in the 4M sail range).
It also develops an afternoon thermal, which can vary from 6.0/12 to too light to ride.
The thermal happens almost every day in Spring and Fall, but it's intensity isn't consistent.
My guess is that with it's North/South orientation and it's venturi effect, it probably
works a little like Rush. Probably with 8-20M Kites you could be riding 7 out of 10 days
in the Spring and Fall.

Thanks for looking into it Craig, Mucho apprishiando. My Bro-in-law was fishing there on Sunday, July 5th, he knows kiting winds and he reported 20mph on Piute and sub 5mph on Otter Creek.
