Ok the first sucked and was really just Dobson and I trying to enjoy a few reaches. Yesterday Fish rode DC on 15 until he wqas over powered I showed up late and almost went out but the storm clouds had moved in.
Today Don Peter Fish and myself rode plenty powered big kite little boards. I got on the water around 1130 and rode untill about 230 Peter keep it going until 330ish. Great day at DC the only bummer was there was almost more boat chop then wind chop and all the power boats seem to think they have the right of way.... I had to change tacks alot to not get hit by 4th of Julyers. Only DC Jim out on the poleboard. looked about 6.5ish to me

Anyway, I agree completely about the powerboat chop and the general cluelessness of the powerboaters. Pretty scary!

number one: they don't understand the right of way. education by the park rangers might help. signs at the ramp or something.
number two: they don't realize we have no steering wheel or throttle. hell, even i'm surprised when i go where i want to.

i had a really scary experience back in delaware when a boater basically just head straight towards the direction i was going to. i was fully powered and going at about 20 mph at the very least. that f#%ker just speed up, rather than slow down or change direction. i had to gave in, of course, and almost had a bad accident. i cursed him endlessly. i don't think it help though. . .

I know I have been there when it is scary. I think a sign at the boat ramp would be a good idea. Reminding them we are a sailing craft.

I don't think Leo has to worry about throwing redneck around on the windriders forum.

right of way is Rowboat kayak etc, sailing vessal, powered vesal. starboard tack right of way for wind power starboard pass for powered on same path.

Most of the powered boater on deer vreek seem to think its law of gross tonage...as in biger boat wins you move little boat.

I am pretty sure that they have to take an exam to get their permit to operate a power craft. They should all have read the rules. Yes, we do have the right of way:

But we also must realized that not all power boaters read or would follow that rule.

As for doctors and lawyers being rednecks, I for one couldn't careless what job they have. Don't forget that our last president is a redneck and see what this country had became after a redneck was in charge for 8 years?

Billy, from what I saw yesterday, your neck was pretty red from sun exposure. I guess you are a "redneck" for the summer.

From religious books I have encountered, it seems Red Necks respond better with the eye for an eye philosophy..very earth based attitudes.
SOOOO..... I suggest riding with shotguns on our backs...similar to their rifles hanging in the back window of the standard redneck 67 chevy pick up.
Remington makes an excellent kiter/sailor model, the Marine Magnum with Nickle plating to prevent rust.

Now, aside from the fun of shooting at moving objects (red neck boats) the difficulty will be properly controlling the kite/boom while one handing a 12 gauge terminator style. Tricky but not far fetched, as I know of a Snowkiter up north that rolls with a rifle on his back while kiting during the Elk hunting season.

Just my 2 cents.

We could also pay some kid to drop sugar in all the tanks on the dock, that should slow em' down.

Overall I think that the law of boat size has taken over. Maybe the UWA could sponsor signage regarding Right Of Way issues at DC. It's not really an issue anywhere else. What might help, and what has helped at other lakes, is having the power boats travel clockwise on the lake. This results in far fewer points of conflict and improved safety.

Everyone has a point here, we /boaters all pay to use the water. The Rangers are useless, and boaters know it. Common sense says don't run circles around a 15' colorful sail in a powerboat, an accident can really ruin your boating day! When was the last time a Ranger flagged down a boat? Maybe when a Ranger gets run over they will return to policing the water, or if Wagstaffs get sued.

Now full disclosure: I've gone over the speed limit within the bathing zone many times, and we all know Trevor and Troy Dubock were in clear danger of getting speeding tickets before they even knew how to drive a car. Karma wise I've snapped my share of fishing lines, lures, and ok maybe one or two $150 reels just happened to fall in the water after a speeding Hypersonic got a tad too close to an invisible fishing line...
