I arrived around 3:30 and saw Jim and couple other sailors out slogging. Went into the parking area and Carl C was about to de-rig his 9.0 sail. His sacrifice worked. Wind picked up around 4 and went up and down for about an hour. Jim had a lot of good runs. John D and I had couple of good puffs. It died at around 5. Bordy and couple other kiters were at the kite beach having fun as well.

Still not sure DCCB doesn't suffer from turbulence as the flow comes from the south over the far hill. Especially with a westerly component it seemed confused, pushing south, sputtering, then west, then back again. Jim S makes it work. He launch and immediately left the vicinity pointing high up towards IB. Guess when you live there you get it wired. Anyway, it was fun. Plus, you gotta love the bucolic rigging area off the short dirt road: waist high grass and rustling trees with not a sign of a motor boat or wake runner. The only wakes crossed were those left by George and John. Definitely out of the hustle bustle at IB.

Carl's description of the merits of DCCB reinforce my mistake of the day; launching at DCIB. A frisbee landed on my sail 3 times as I was rigging (within 5 minutes). There were, count them, 15 rug-rats on the ramp as I pulled out! And this is a week day!

As to question #1, I just take a wild guess; sometimes I hit it, sometimes I don't

Any wind at all at DC in July/August, especially fairly strong wind, is a bonus. Way too much of the time there's not enough wind even for big gear. But it does tend to be gusty. After Labor Day, the windy days are more frequent, the wind tends to be steadier, there are a whole lot fewer motorboats and PWCs, and Sailboat Beach tends to have the best conditions.

I think the wind was just mixed yesterday, as the day before, it was turbulent all over the lake the past few days. I think its the strong south mixed with the thermal wind. some of the most up n down wind all year latley..
