KITEMARE @ SKYLINE 12/15
Was kiting in the backcountry on the northwest side of the highway behind the wind fences. Took a crappy fall wich left me stuck in some deep
powder upsidown. I was able to unstrap my board and started flailing around to get stood up. With one perfect kick, I knocked my board loose from
it's perch and sent it careening down the backside of the mountain. Un-$#%@*&%-believable!!! I desided to walk my kite down about three hundred feet to the treeline and parked it.
I started hiking down as I thought " it couldn't have gone far" right. It took me an hour to hike down following the trail of gashed trees and broken branches. The thing must have broken the sound
barrier at one point, while on a flat section , it hit a kicker and launched nearly forty feet before I picked up the trail. After about a quarter mile, things got worse. The trail ended over a steep roller.
My board found the only unclimbable pine tree on the mountain and stuck in just a foot out of reach. In final desperation, I managed to fish it out with my bootlace tied to a 9/16" endwrench, (the only thing in my backpack besides a bottle
of water). I thought hicking down was exsausting in waist deep, crawling back out was ten times worse. The only good thing about all this was that my 17m Waroo, hadn't wandered and was ready to relaunch and take me back to the
parking lot...... Think i'll go to Strabs next time. Oh, the board suffered very minor damage and I almost suffered a heart attack.
