First day on the snow this year. Drove past strawberry river where I saw about 3 or 4 kites that looked like they were working too hard and avoiding a lot of sage-brush and drove to Chicken Creek east. There was one other kite out on the lake but the wind looked much better there with some drifting where you enter the parking lot (good sign). Threw out the 12M Manta at about 3:00 and rode til 5:00 nicely powered. The ice seemed plenty thick and there was about 3-5 inched of snow on top making for good speed runs. The off-lake terrain south and west of the lot had pretty good snow and was much deeper. It was certainly ride-able but you really had to keep your nose up to avoid sagebrush snags making it a real leg workout. Bottom line is that we need another good foot or two. Pray for more snow flakes and less human ones!!
