1/17 Pow Mow 10/13m tele skis
Posted: Sun Jan 17, 2010 7:23 pmI got there @11:30 and it seemed like it was about 15-20 mph and gusty. KNowing the wind should be increasing, I took the 10m and used it for about 20 minutes before I kited back to the car for the 13m. Jim Hornbeck and Andy were there Jim said he should have used a bigger kite but by the end of the session @2:30 I was lit up on my 13m since the winds were getting stronger. Andy had a customer and he was doing fine on his 11m. The wind was probably 20mph when I quit @ 2:30 (I should have a wind meter). The coverage is pretty shitty for January but hopefully this weeks storms will come through.
I talked to the ski patrol director about the wind gauge. He said that it is now working and you can actually get the reading if you go to the Commuterlink page and find the maintenance sheds and click on the one in Huntsville (I think). I just tried finding it but no luck. He told me he would email the link but he hasn't yet. The only problem with it now is that it isn't connected to Mesowest. UDOT has to come up to do that. He has asked them already and said that he has 4 ski passes for them when they get it done. So they have some incentive.
After reding Marty's Monte wind log I guess I won't be going up there tomorrow. Pow Mow is prediting 41mph gusts and I don't want a piece of that either. Maybe Pinview will be kiteable and not just in the narrows.
