Linda and I got 11 for 11 days of amazing wind in Maui. We were so lucky in our timing for our vacation. Wind every day! One day was so much wind that we only got in about 30 minutes, before it was too much for us. Just a handfull of WSr's were on 3.2's and a few pros on 4.0's that day @ Kanaha. The chop looked so wicked, that it did not look fun. We decided to pack up and, headed for Hookipa, and got to see some of the superstars of windsurfing doing their thing. Robby, Jason P. Levi and Kai Lenny to name a few. The waves looked huge. It seemed to take quite a bit of time for them to make it out through the waves, to set up for another ride. They were jumping soooooo high. One of the guys at the Neil Pryde shop that we rented gear from, told us that Mr. JP himself broke several boards and masts that day. (I guess that's ok when you are paid to WS.) He also said that he had kited with a 3.5 that day. He was one of a few kites out that whole day. Thankfully it mellowed out the next day a bit.
The biggest sail that we used was a 4.7, but most days were 4.2 and 4.5. We left tired, every day, with the wind still blowing, it just never stopped. Saw lot's of sea critters. Mainly turtles, flying fish, and a few whale spouts way out in the distance. It always kind of freeks me out, when I'm way out there, to see anything in the water. WHAT A GREAT TRIP!

Maui no ka oi! sounds like a dream trip. I watched some of those Pro sailors at hookipa a couple years ago. Needless to say I found this site soon afterward and began my quest to ride some wind. Someday I will get back to maui. You must have chosen the right time of year, Wind and even whales. Awsome!
