Strawberry River 27 Jan Zephyr Big Skis
I really don't know what to make of the weather or weather stations any more. The readings at the Strawberry River (or is it Daniels Summit?) weather station were 7g12 at 12 and 1. When I showed up at 3pm, two guys were packing it in, and one of them had an 18 m kite. They had zero luck when the meter was reading its highest for the day. I felt a light breeze and thought that if I could get the kite in the air, that I could work my way up the grooming and find better air. The guys left, probably laughing at me. I even told Todd not to bother because I thought it would suck. OR NOT!!!
Great pockets of snow, many of which didn't thaw at all, clear skies and plenty of wind for the Zephyr. I Immediately went high, skied pow, jumped like an idiot, went down to the highway etc. all by my lonesome self. A raven kept me company until sunset, and I made it back to the parking lot with no problems at all. So I tacked upwind to the Northwest and cruised around the river until it was almost dark, and it was still windy.
Here's the funny part. If you look at the wind meter history, you will think I'm lying.
PS - Whoever made the "S turns" in the halfpipe yesterday - I made it into several dollar signs today
