DC never works on a North wind, right? Unless it's NE. Today it was. The wind came through in a series of impulses, and when it was on, it was actually quite steady by DC standards. (The attached graphic doesn't do the wind justice; there is a tree to the NE of my anemometer that creates a lot of turbulence.) Except for the area of open water at the river mouth, the ice appears to be very solid (as indicated by the presence of snowmobile tracks and lots of anglers.) Between the shore and the most popular fishing area, the surface is mostly rough bare ice, but elsewhere there is a 2" layer of crusty snow that provides excellent grip. Not the most interesting/challenging place to kite, but it's convenient (for some of us, at least.)
