3/11 Lindon UT Lake, 16 m and big board
I got a call from Chris and Tyler saying the wind was blowing at Lindon and that I should meet them there with our wetsuits and the big board. I packed things up and in less than 15 minutes walked down the stairs to find them pumping up the 16's (see picture #1). Once the lines were walked (#2) and their wetsuits on, they were ready to launch.
The Heavens smiled upon us as we got the first kite in the air (#3). Tyler got the first tack of the day, he was planing for 3 seconds while I had run to the car so all I saw was the kite from the road. (#4) And then the wind shut off. (#5)
They were able to get the kite back up a couple times (#6) but there was never enough wind to plane again. So began the waiting game (#7), the part of riding the wind that will inevitably happen, but is always disappointing. We talked, we joked, we enjoyed the beautiful weather and teasing Chris about his swollen ankles from the cold water (#8). Even the graffiti on the pavilion mocked us (#10).
After about an hour of waiting, and the wind only slowing down, we realized we weren't going to get any more riding in so we packed up and left (#11 and 12).
Was it worth it for the 3 seconds of riding? Absolutely! Why? Because when it's all said and done, being skunked 5 minutes from your house on a warm day with good company is infinitely better than trying to warm yourself up in the car hours away from home hoping you didn't just waste your entire day driving to find out the wind isn't blowing.
It has begun, water season is upon us. Pack up your wetsuits and let's get ridin'!
