16 May Skunk then Success 17, 13, 12, 11
With the north wind forecast, I started looking at tables. What I saw indicated minimal north wind...but let's check the Provo airport cam. Big whitecaps, ripping wind etc. So I call Billy, he sees it, let's go. Drive past whitecaps at Deer Creek, Billy is at Lincoln alone, so I keep rolling. I figure DC is a short lived fluke based on the forecast, and I want some butter behind the jetty. Get to lIncoln, watch things go from crappy to dead. Leave after two hours because the Heber airport and Sundance show signs of life. Get to the dam, and ...NOTHING. Double skunking right?
WRONG - I pull up to BWB and (apparently?) it's blowing so west that the dam has nothing, and BWB has wind. I rig Zephyr, Billy loads a 12 and away we go nicely powered, then really powered. Eventually, Billy ropes in his 12 and I am hanging on to the 17 unloading some big airs that would be much bigger if I could JUST keep my board in the water.
John G shows up, and I have someone to land my kite. Praise the Lawd! I switch to 13 C4, John rigs 11 edge and we all play for another round. Wind gets gusty then flukey and we know it's time to go - but a great time was had by all.
Next time I'll try to skip the extra drive to Lincoln when kiting Deer Creek.
