How do you save gas AFTER getting skunked? You already went and got skunked??????? Perhaps the second rule of skunked club is to not go kiting to get skunked :)))

That's what Todd means Herr Bordy. If we track our skunkings better in this forum, perhaps will can all forecast better and avoid needless driving and gas / time expense.

Dead on Pepe. It is exspensive just to go. If we all help each other we could save time and money. The great "Utah Kite Network" UKN!!

RIght, so we should not go to kite spots on what looks like a good forcast based on the fact that some times it doesn't work out. So that means any time all the stuff lines up and looks good but some cell moves in and crushes it, we should go on record and say so, meaning next time it all lines up we should beleave a cell might move in and crush it because it happened before????? Or we should go to the spot and perhaps kite since that has also happened when conditions look the same????

Talk about skunkings all you want but YOUR personal level of commetment is what decides if YOU choose to go, we all know some kiters are willing to go and hope and perhaps be rewarded, while others have a more negative "it's not going to blow" view and perhaps avoid being skunked. I have ridden lots of Days that the forcast is poor, and gotten skunked lots of days when the foracst is great? Should I post and say I rode when the forcast was Lame and thank that I burned gas? Or I got skunked when the forcast was great??? It is weather and it is not always the same?

Post what ever you guys want. Save gas however you think is best. I will be at the beach waiting for wind, maybe getting skunked and maybe being one of the only dudes riding that day, and then listening how others "were going to go, but didn't want to burn the gas"... thats the wonder of wind sports.

Billy is right about a number of things, but I recall a certain kite weather forecaster asking for skunk reportings to track their kill ratio. Let's face it, weather forecasting for wind in Utah is tough, and not exactly a complete science. If we can get our forecasting brains more info, maybe we can look at a (currently) "good/solid" forecast and call it garbage in the future. I would LOVE to be able to look at the Provo airport camera, see big whitecaps, and know that if I get to Lincoln two hours later, it will suck.

And yes Billy, for those trying to improve their kill ratio, It might be useful for you to post that you rode when the forecast was lame.

I HAVE A DREAM!!! and in that dream, I'm kiting :)))

I'll get in trouble for this... so take it as funny as that is how I feel, and do not take it seriously. Don't think about your time seriously. Don't think about your money seriously. Please don't take your life seriously. And if you take all this into consideration... quit kiting on water in Utah as it is a chase.... move to Sanpete County in Central Utah and kite 5 days a week or more for 5-7 months every winter.

Or do what almost every windsurfer that could up and leave did do.... move to the Gorge or the Delta or Baja.

Oh man I'm gonna get it now. :)))

Hey Brian,

No flames from me. I am not ready to move to Sanpete County, but I sure do enjoy the drive down to Skyline.

You bring up the age old topic of how we live our lives. I used to think it would be cool to give up everything and kite every day. I have come to realize that I would soon get bored of it. What makes kiting special for me is that I don't have the opportunity to do it every day. I am learning to take a chill pill and not obsess about the sport. I say, don't go out on iffy days if it is going to frustrate you, do something else unless you have the patience to wait for the wind.

Yeah, we get too worried about things that don't matter. I am guilty of hustling to get my kite up and ignoring the opportunity to interact with my friends. I hope all of you will will forgive me for my impatience.
