8/19-8/20 yuba 12m
We just bought a new pop up camper and wanted to try it out so we packed up and headed down to yuba. The wind was borderline friday evening, but never picked up enough to ride. Saturday morning it went crazy at like 4:00 am and woke me up. it was too dark to ride or i would have, cause i couldn't sleep. sun came up at 6:30 and i rigged my kite. The wind was really really gusty, it would lite me up for like 5 minutes, then i couldn't even keep the kite in the air for like 10 minutes. this was extremely frustrating cause it would get me out into open water then shut off and leave me out to dry...or soak rather. i had to rescue three different times due to lack of wind and i forgot my booties 2 of the three long walks which killed my feet. we camped right on the west beach, which is entirely gravel and i hated rigging and taking down my kite there, it was really hard on my lines especially because i had to drift launch and ended up dragging my lines all over the place. the wind was really weird and shifty there too. I think i would definitely recommend getting to the campground that is boat in only or at least going farther south than the section of the lake with the boat ramp because the wind comes from that side and is much smoother and stays blowing in one direction. yuba was fun and the wind there is pretty reliable if you get to the right spot...but i miss the green grass of lincoln beach and fan like wind of pooh-tah lake.
