I thought it might be fun to have an early get together this season, in addition to the late summer Sulpher Camp out. I'd like to do it some time around the beginning of June.

Eric suggested an evening get together at Pelican Point. Pot luck type thing, where maybe we could work on our launch area, clean it up a bit and make it more user friendly.

I wondered about a camp out at Yuba, but if beaches are flooded, only the camp ground will be open, and I'm sure quite full.

Mona might be fun. We could contact the land owner and see if we could rent the place for an evening. Maybe the owner would want us to do some clean up there too. Does any one have the land owners name/number?

Please post any other ideas that you have.

Seems like in June the best potential for Wind would be Deer Creek and Utah Lake.

Do you mean a day time gathering or a camp out?

What about the same day as Ricks begginer get to together? June 17th

A day/night event would be good or a Camp out . Maybe we should do both. I just wanted to see what people would show interest in. Since Rick already has his event in the works, we could add to it, and do some kind of pot luck or barbaque. Let's hear your ideas.

Sarah - I like the idea of doing it @ Deer Creek in conjunction with Ric's beginner program followed by a BBQ. Could reserve a pavillion and have everything we need ie tables, restrooms, etc. Be a good outing even if no wind. I personally could not make that date though since I am signed up for a Lake Powell trip with my family.

Sounds like a great idea!!! I can't believe how many people are wanting to bring beginners... I think that some food would be so cool to have at the end of the day on Saturday June 17th...

Sarah, one thing I have to work out is that if it is an official "clinic" type thing they want a lot of money... I want to establish that it is simply a big group of INDIVIDUALS meeting up there... Ya know what I'm saying... If they give that OK, then we'll be good to go... I know renting a pavillion is $50 bucks (it includes that the first 25 people get in for free, then it's $2 a person. I'll find out this week if they'll BE COOL to us about that! If so, I don't care what we do! More the better!

ALSO... For this beginner thing... IT IS TIME TO GIVE AWAY YOUR OLD GEAR on JUNE 17th... I hesitate to "burden" or hold people back with the crappy gear, but hey if they are motivated enough, WE LEARNED ON THE CRAP! But how cool would it be if we could seriously raffle away some total rigs... OR just choose whom you want to give gear to... I know there are rigs that need to see the dumpster or the water! Some would do more justice hitting the dumpster... Be thinking!

We definitely don't want people to try that stuff before they try the NEWWIDEBOARDS though... Scare them away!!! he he... But at least they'll know the difference... And after they can try the older or free gear and take it if they like... Grant... ... Yes it'll be there! My brother is ready for a NEWWIDE I think.

I want to iterate and reiterate... I have heard every single windsurfer talk about having a beginner something or other event... So, I am far from calling it my thing... I have talked to enough people who said to do it, that it is OUR thing... On the flyer I refer to a question: Who are we? A: Just a group of individual Windsurfing addicts who want to share with you one of our passions! ... (thx Fred) ... ... That's why there is so much support for this... We ALL have wanted to do it... And it's just time to do it (... I don't know how many times Lynn Stevens probably did this in the 80's, or Dimitri, or Grant, or Duane, or Craig, or ME!, or MANY OTHERS;)... We'll learn from this and redraw...

PSS ...Ya know... We have the Utah Summer Games the weekend after the June 16th and 17th Beginner Bonanza (not official) at Deer Creek... The Utah Sailing Association has people competing in that... I think that some of you FORMULA Starboard people should look into what it would take for you to start windsurfing in the Utah games in Windsurfing... (future years of course)... Call the guys at the Utah Sailing Assoc. they are in the games... Why not! There are quite a few of you!

Its a great idea to combine the UWA and clinic.

Trevor and Troy Dubock want to give lessons this summer, before they go to Harvard Business School. They have a car, and nuthin' to do all summer except sail. They don't fill the model patient mentor role, that's Ricks job

The cool thing is they learned from every single UWA member, they were taking Notes, and they have a serious respect for all who took the time to shepard them, so there is hope for the New Generation of UT sailors.

Anyway, I think that if it doesn't necessarily interfere with Gorge trips, a weekend at Yuba could be fun sometime later in June. Especially when the Lake goes down a hair. Last year I had a weekend at Yuba that was some of the best sailing I could ever remember... It turned on and never turned off all weekend...

I know many know this but, I just wanted to illustrate for those who don't know Yuba, it can be a grab bag of wind! The "rubine head connectors" can be thick... But when Yuba is good, it is really fun! Warm... Especially on a strong south... Just like Rush, Yuba's good comes with it's bad... (a bit far 103 miles from I-15, 7200 S I-215 junction in SL, if not windy HOT, rhc's)... Positives:Great morning thermal, noon break depending, afternoon grabbag, relatively sandy beaches, blue green water because of the sandy bottom, warm, camp on the beach... can be good for beginners on a south because they get captured down on RHC or crimson nape beach...

While I'm at it, with Microsoft Streets I calculated driving distance a while ago to most sailing sites from I-15, 7200 S I-215 junction in SL. Rounded up to nearest mile. (sorry no specific altitudes, all this is on local sites link on the website already I think)... But it is interesting seeing the mileage especially with 2nd mortgages paying our fuel bills.

Sat was a good day at Island Beach to approach the Wagstaff Concession. They aren't open till May 23. Johnathon Wagstaff is very open to allowing the UWA have a trailer/handcart with gear in his enclosed area. He's tried kiting in Bermuda, goes way back to the mid 80's as to the past lesson/rental experience.

Bottom line I listened to his side, he doesn't want to rent nor give lessons since he's then got to staff up to chase down rookies at Charleston. His 26 jetskis at 175 a day are his focus. He's well aware that windsurfers help his jetski rental people in trouble. 3 rangers for up to 3500 boats on a busy weekend scares him.

So we have an open door to come up with different scenerios and we have a champion in our corner.

If you build it they will come!
