Latest from Powder Mountain from Kent Mathews.(Mountain/operations manager.) Liability is still the biggest issue up there. Kent is for snowkiting at Powder Mountian. Their insurance company originally said no. At Kents request, they said yes (reluctantly) but still need to work out waiver/ticket fees etc. I think anything can happen as far as access at powder mountain. I see this as a good opportunity to come together and offer our input/experience dealing with access issues to Powder Mountain. Would anybody be interested in a "Powder Mountain Snowkite Advisory Committee?" Thoughts and Comments? I proposed to Kent that we could set up a meeting with his staff and his insurance rep. It would be a good opportunity to see what they are up against and offer our help. Also, It would be a good opportunity to show the potential of snowkiting and maintain thier excitement for snowkiting. UWA has some experience here right? It would be nice to see Brian and Heather, Jake, Jon (ie dealers and distributors) and of course Jake or Best rep, Auggie, Chris, and Marty to name a few. Any interest?
Les
Ps.
Still plenty of snow up there.
They just took the old hidden lake chair lift down. I'd trade a vintage chair for a waroo or instinct??

Les,
Count me in. I've never kited at POWMTN, but do appreciate it's potential. Chris even talked about a snow kiting center, if possible, in the future. I'll be happy to add my 2c's worth.

We've been invited to meet with the managing staff at Powder Mountain September 18th, 10am at the day lodge. Kent Mathews sounds confident that they will be able to work kiting into their insurance policy. However, I don't think that the rest of the managers are eager to work out the rest of the details to make kiting happen this winter.
Based on my discussion with Kent, their main concerns are how to charge for kiting ticket/pass and safety. Let me know who would be able to make this meeting. I'm not so good at communicating, so I shouldnt do much talking. I think we should give a quick presentation on what kiters are doing these days. Uphill, downhill, xcountry, jumps. How kiting has grown across the country. Address safety systems. And discuss potential commercial opportunities in the future. Example, derik at ukbinc and out of state companies are providing accomodations, trips, and lessons at skyline.
So, need to be able to answer their questions, assist in finding a solution for a ticket/pass, address saftey, and sale the idea that Powder can make money off of kiting one way or another. Let me know who can attend and any ideas or discussions. Thanks, Les - lesvierra at hotmail dot com
