Grantsville North Wind

What is the downside to North wind at Grantsville?

I'm thinking in terms of low wind foiling. Seem like there is often 10 to 15 mph wind after the South quits.

Hi Dave,

I think you'll find that the Northwind is a little swirly and gusty. If I were going to attack
Grantsville north wind though, I think a foil type board would be the best option.

My take on it is that the topography influences the wind.

When the wind comes from the South, it is moving down slope and has fewer impediments to reach the water (dam).

North wind is climbing up the hill from the lake and then gets to the damn and has to go over the damn at the highest point.
I have sailed in strong North winds there (enough to overcome the dam). But that doesn't happen often (once in a 10 year period).
A lighter north wind is more common (maybe enough to foil).
