ok, oregon is pretty easy to get too, but what is the fastest way to bandon oregon. should I stick to 80 west and I-5 north, or 84 to boise and east on a combination of roads 30, 201, 20? anybody been this last way. leaving for floras lake in a couple of hours and didnt even think about the best way.

My microsoft streets program calculated the shortest or quickest, rather, way to Bandon being, through Hood River to Portland via I-84... Then going down to Eugene via I-5... a few miles before Eugene get off in Mckenzie on the Westbound Beltline Highway till it becomes Beltline Road... Then turn Right at SR 126 or Florence-Eugene Hwy... Looks like a windy one... Thats WINE-dee.... ... Then in Florence its the 101, Oregon Coast Hwy all the way to Bandon... ... ... Don't say you never got a help from a windsurfer! Total Distance 1,019 miles...

PS... You could go through Bend from about Caldwell Id... via SR 20... But the distance isn't that much shorter and the drive would be SLOW!!! Good Luck... BTW.... What's in Bandon?

We just made this journey in July and chose to drive via Winnemucca. From there we went to Lakeview, OR to Klamath Falls to Medford to Roseburg to Bandon. We camped overnight just west of Lakeview at a beautiful state campground.

The roads from Winnemucca to Lakeview are very remote, probably the most undeveloped area I've ever experienced in the US. I don't recommend rte 66 from Klamath Falls to Ashland. It's 50 miles of 20mph corners.

We sailed a couple days at Floras Lake with strong winds. It's a great flatwater spot. The camping is good there too.

"Winnemucca To The Sea". That's what my mom calls it. It's a road trip of lore. We did it when I was a kid, once. My mom still talks about it. The most awful way to the Oregon coast. Complete with wild donkeys. 300 miles through twisting farm land. Go for it!!!

oooh what along drive. one day there, two days back. 18 to 20 hours pulling a trailer. went for it north 89 to boise and over west via 20, 30. classic uphill against the wind pull on 20. They have a odot truck going back and forth for WHEN you run out of gas. We squezzed by on fumes, but my buddy didnt. cost him a couple of hours. this way seemed slow, but not to bad.

we came back down south I-5, then 89? by crater lake, 315 to reno, then 80 home. still long, but less farm, town, single lane driving. Think the commute to utah lake is quicker.

That old saying 'kain't git thar from hair' is almost true when you're talking about the southern Oregon coast. I made that drive several times when I windsurfed at Pistol River near Gold Beach. Every route takes about the same amount of time. Going through the Gorge and Portland is the longest distance but the easiest driving. I used to spend a day or two in the Gorge to break up the drive.
