I plan to be in the Salt Lake area for a few weeks in September and October and would love to get in some sessions. What size gear am I going to need? Maybe the more practical question is how often are you on kites larger than 12M (and then how big?) since 12 is my largest. Thanks for the pointers and hope to see you all tearing it up this fall.

Hey chris what are doing out here? Isn't the wind good in San Fransico during Sept and Oct. The bay gets more wind then utah. Anyway, Bow kite 9m, 12m, 16m would work here. We use mostly 12m and 16m, sometime 9m. C-kite anywhere from 9m and up. Hope it helps Jacob Buzianis

Thanks Jacob. Why will I be there? Pretty standard story involving a girl. Anyway, thanks for the advice -- I've been thinking of getting a "Contra Bow" 14M -- any of your local crew using that or the 17M?

Chris
I lived in the bay area for years and sailed at all the local spots.
The kiting in Utah is great but not near as consistent as summer in the bay area. Spring and fall are our best times. The winds are typically generated by storms. We get a south wind as the front approaches and a north wind as it passes. The north winds can be very smooth at 12mph to 25mph (south are gusty). I ride 16.5 cabrina contra 2005 on most north winds. If you had a 17 contra and 12 in either bow or c you can ride here 90% of the time.
I hope to see you out there!
Cheers
Christian
