I'm going to cancun in a couple of weeks and was wondering if its worth taking some windsurfing equip or can you rent good stuff down there? Is there any good sailing this time of year? Also, how is delta with the gear? Sounds like I need to put everything in one bag!?

Thanks Mike

i have no idea about renting equipment in cancun, but everytime i travel delta with my surfboard, they rape me $80 each way. kind of pricey.... i would definitely pack down into one bag to avoid $80 a bag charges. many times i have had to make the decision- how much is it worth to me to have my own equipment wherever i am going. a couple of times i've had to resort to renting.

anyone know how it goes for kiting equipment? technically a kiteboard would be as small as a golf bag which they let you take at no charge. i'm possibly heading to burlington this summer and my buddy who i i'm staying with lives right on the lake.

good luck mike!

I was down there about 4 years ago and found some scuba bums that had a few decent boards and sails. $20 an hour. All the resorts seemed to have the original windsurfer.

If you head down that way go to the Blue Iguana.

They had asked me to bring gear down to them if I was to go again. Something to do with import taxes being ridiculusly high. If you fly it in on a trip then you don't get hit with it.

I sailed a 7.0 on some light winds and was able to plane most of the time.

If you want to sell some big sails or even a board I bet you could find some takers. Otherwise get hit with the $80 fee to take it home.

You should google the area for expats that might be interested in gear.
Then you can sail and make some money.
I have sold gear this way to pay for trips.

Sounds fun. I wish I was going with ya.

They can get you on kite gear for $80. buck too. I went to Hawii and got nailed. Now I only take my smallest board and I wrap it like a snowboard. They don't charge for ski equiptment. There official policy is anything over 50 inches except golf and snow skiing equiptment.
Good luck
