Does it blow at Pineview every day during an inversion? By the posts it seems that the Am is better than the PM. I'm thinking of doing the drive from Heber City today. Any help? Inversions don't help Deer Creek at all.

They seem to be fairly consistent but not entirely dependable. When I drove by last night about 5:30 I don't think there was enough to kite with. Then agin last Friday was one of the best days that I've had this year.

This link is the only thing that CAN help.
Forcasting PV is the most frustrating spot I know.
I've been windsurfing/kiteboarding PV since '87
It can be great one day,
have the same weather pattern the next day,
and you get skunked.
The early morning very light easterlies by the dam,
happens when you see easterlies in the very early morning
on this link.
Westerlies would be great,
but very hit and miss,
Expect frustration. IMHO

I dont have the experience Marty does on PV, but I dont think I've ever been skunked on AM east winds during inversions. But I've flown in 5 mph winds. Not real exciting, but again, its a great place for a begineer to work on keeping the kite in the air and work on being efficient.
I havent tried to catch a west wind this season because of predictability and my experience last winter. But I'm excited for those who caught the last few west PM winds. Hope I can get one.

Got skunked this AM. Arrived at 7 AM to nothing even down on the ice near the dam. Marty's link showed that I would be good to go, so I don't know.
I have had better luck with the afternoon westerly.
I think the problem this morning was that the inversion was not as entrenched as it was on Friday.

To further this experiment, I will try the afternoon wind tonight and let you know in the morning.

If you're driving all the way from Heber I assume you aren't getting anything at Strawberry?
Skunked at PV

Took the long drive to PV this afternoon to find no wind. Couldn't believe how many fishing holes there are in the ice. Got back to Park City at 3 to find decent wind at Homey Depot. The snow there was very good. It's a real bummer that so many people are trashing the fence. If you go just roll over the gate. DON'T beat up the fence or one day the field will be closed for good.

Got to PV @ 4:00. The wind was blowing 10-12 out of the west. I went to the windsurfers beach and threw out the 10m. I was able to work my way all the way up to the dam and then did a downwinder. I kited till it was getting hard to see and decided to pack it in. Before I left though the winds did seem to be increasing, so I took a run to Cemetery Point. The wind was still good at the point and when I turned around I just put the kite on my left side and made it all the way to the windsurfer beach without tacking back. Left @ 6:00.
