Hey guys. I just barely got back from my mission and I'm looking to getting back into kiteboarding. I sold all my stuff before I left so I need new stuff. I was just wondering if people could update me on some of the new gear. I've heard about the 5th line system and I was wondering about that and if thats something I should look into. Also, if there are any other new safety systems or cool new features on kites these days that I should know about I would appreciate it if anyone could let me know.

Welcome Home!
Gear has changed a lot in the past 2 years. The latest and greatest kites are known as bow or SLE kites. Bow and SLE kites are 2 distinct types of kites. Both use extra bridles and/or pulleys to maintain a flatter profile. Some claim that they are more powerful than the traditional "C" kites. That is debatable. The reason almost everyone has converted to the new kites is that they have a lot more range, handle gusty wind better, and the depower is close to 100%. I recommend either of the two most popular kites used locally, the Best Waroo and the Ozone Instinct. Both kites are excellent and you can try before you buy since we have local reps for both brands.
As far as a board goes, I recommend a large, wide, flat board. Depending on your weight from 130 cm if you are light to 150 if you are heavy and/or a beginner. Good boards to look at are the Slingshot Glide or Misfit and the Spleene Door, Session, or Rip. These larger boards will keep you on plane during the lulls and you will spend more time kiting and less time walking.
I hope to see you out on the water!
