Can you tell me the dimensions of your big spleene board? I'm thinking of making a ghetto rig light wind board and was trying to figue out just how big i should go with it. Anyone else with input on sizing a light wind kiteboard, feel free to chime in.

My big Spleene board is 164 x 50 cm. There is a lot of information on the kiteforum as Marty mentioned and on http://www.foilzone.com. I suggest doing a search on "lightwind board" in either forum. You can make an excellent ghetto board using marine plywood, it will just end up being fairly heavy.

There is a pretty good plan on kite forum that I used that was just like the door. And I added a couple inches in width. Worked great. Search light wind plywood boards or some combo. After a couple of rides I knew I had to have the real thing. Go big, break the bank.

The one treand I have noticed about light wind boards is everyone seems to build a ply board and then buy a light wind board. Lots of the cool guys that have let me try their light wind boards always have the same store as Les.

One problem I had with the plywood was that it was TOOOOOOO HEAVY. I like the stiffness but heavy plywood didn't work for me. The best big door board was the SS glide. It was stiff and light.

To make the board lighter get a thin plywood and put the carbon fiber sheet on the top and bottom and wrap it. Carbon fiber sheet isn't cheap. It will be lighter then plywood board but not the SS Glide.

I would put my time and effort into getting a second job to buy one of those SS glide board then making one. if you want to make plywood board for fun and feel like kiteboard designer, go for it. I have done trying to make something for kiteboarding before but it didn't turn out what I expected.
