Heh Josh,

Do you think you could put up a going riding? section.

just like the wind log or main message board, but just for posting up plans, for that day or so.

I have seen them on dirtbike, snowboard, etc. web sites. Some places they reset each week, others they just keep rolling.

Would be great to just peak and see whos planing on riding where etc.

Thanks,

i second that idea. i like the idea of the phone board thing, but it is cumbersome to call and wait and also to leave your message. i know most of us are connected to the internet most everywhere we go with phones these days and it probably woudl be just as easy. maybei just dont' use it enough.

perhaps the diplomatic thing to do would be vote on either the phone tree or the internet board and focus efforts on that. perhaps the internet "going riding" page could be mobile phone friendly for those on the go...

I don't make any changes to the structure of the forums without direction form the board (i.e. Rick and company). I'll copy your suggestion into the "Director's Form" and we can see if it gets discussed there. Hopefully they'll weigh the pros and cons and make a good decision. I'm all for making things as simple and usable as possible.

So a separate "Where are you Kiting or Sailing Today?" ... "Where I'm Kiting or Sailing..." forum... Positives: I think it's a great idea and sounds useful to me... People can plan on where to go a little earlier at a glance... People might be more likely to post where they're going than in the msg board. And for sure keep it rolling, cuz, the most recent is always on the top... And that's the easiest to manage as opposed to a reset. I like it.

The message board doesn't cut it though, huh? A couple negs, the more forums people have to navigate between, the more stuff they might end up missing... Also, some will end up posting to both forums. Craig's post on the weather may need to be posted to both or not. The nature of that forum would be the perfect place for a daily post such as Craigs weather post, but I'd still like to see it on the message board too ...

Let's just try it and see how it goes. If it ends up being too redundant then we can close it. Some of those web pages have so many different forums that they get cluttered. I'd like to try and keep the webpage as easy to navigate as possible. We've got a couple of things in the works for helpful tweaks to the webpage we'll throw this one in the mix. We've been talking about emailing Craigs post as a text to mobiles. Maybe people this could also be an option...

Billy, thanks for the ideas! Any other thoughts on this?

Yea if I could send a text from my phone to an email address and have it post to the board. This would be cool. Also to be able to send a text to a specific address that would trigger a reply text of the daily where we are riding posts. I like the idea of being sent Craigs forcast by text to my phone!

Ok. I'll probably get this setup next week. This weekend is a little crazy for me...my sister is getting married and I'm trying to help my dad not have a nervous breakdown.

So do we want this board to be a free-for-all, like the message board is now? Or do we want to try to impose some structure (like, say, one thread for each location, and you usually just reply to threads each day instead of creating a new one)?

Oh...and ps...about having to spend lots of time checking on each of the boards...there's this really cool link on the index page called "view new posts". It's just above the list of boards, and it only shows up after you are logged in.

Something like that would be nice. I've checked the messages on the phone wind report a few times and never heard a thing. People just need to use it. With gas prices a bit high right now it makes the skunk that much worse. Seems like Billy is always at the right spot, except for when I'm there! Can we just get a GPS device on his Del Sol to know where he's riding?
While on the subject of the forum, Is there a way to add the go to next/previous thread button? Maybe its there and I can't find it.

good stuff. i like the idea of it going to a phone with either text or gsm capable. i do not have a internet based phone , spendy. i do have a gsm capable phone. i use ikitesurf religiously. it even texts me when my presets are achieved at different spots. i just pay for a bundle service, about 20 bucks gets me gsm and texts. it would be nice to see what is on the uwa site, not all of it, but craigs post and where the wind might be would be super nice. maybe we could view??

Any way to text a message to a number
that would convert the text to a message on the forum?

Billy could post "riggn 9m now at Strawbs"
and it would go to the forum.
The header could post the day and time sent.

Yes, being able so send/receive posts via email (text) would be awesome. We think we've found a way to receive posts, just not send. I'll keep looking.
