Last Night a Dark Colored Mazada sedan pulled up at the waters edge. Its License Plate read 050 UHF a dude stepped out, Picked up Jake's board and started to put it in his back seat.

Chris Gainer saw it go down gave a shoot we all hollered at the guy and Tyler ran Over and took the board out of the back seat. On the way out the little Punks made hand gestures at the group of us on the beach we all raised our hands in in the air out of dicust, the car stopped backed up and one of the kids got out, I let them know they just tryed to steal property and they became very threatning, they mentioned we didn't want to mess with them, we will take what ever we want, etc.. We called the Police and He tracked them down and went to their house and spoke with them. They of course said we had threatened them, and they where just picking up the board to find its owner, The cop didn't buy their lies and asked if we wanted to press charges. We asked what he thought the best course of action would be and he decide to write out a full report and place it on record. He told us if for any reason the guys in the car, bother anykiters,(they are from Payson) to call and he will charge them with the theft and Assult or what ever the reason for the second call.

These little Punks where A-holes and made it very clear that they knew we had boards on the beach and we better "watch out" cuz they would do"what ever they want".

As a community we should keep a eye out for this car and the punks in it.

Since the water is higher our gear is right next to the road. We talked about perhaps making a cheap removable bouy with lines and clips to attach a bunch of boards to so any theif would have to get wet if they wanted our gear.

I also would like to know what the community thinks? Should we have pressed charges?

I'm willing to buy some carabiners in order to make a board "locker" as we discussed last night. Basically what we came up with was some sort of weighted buoy with a rope and multiple carabiners in the water for everyone to hook their boards to. This would make it so that people would have to make a much greater effort to try and take a board. For the kiters it would be quite simple. The boards would already be in the water you would just have to unclip your board when you go out.

I've got like 6 extra carabiners that i'm willing to donate if you ever do indeed make a buoy. i also have numerous chunks of metal around here to act as an anchor if that is indeed the best fix for the situation. i haven't visited Utah lake yet, but what about tossing board in the reeds on the south side of the jetty? it would be a pain in the ass to get boards because its upwind, but it might be a bit more out of sight.

my $.02 on the attempted theft is probably irrelevant sine i wasn't there to fully understand what went down. it sounds like the best case scenario happened. hopefully the punks are scarred now, and it sounds like we had an amicable encounter with the local police which in my opinion can never hurt. if we had pressed charges, they perhaps would have had more of a grudge to settle. this way, they are just embarrassed. however, as the saying goes you can't argue with an idiot so embarrassment may be just as much of a provoker for retaliation.

Chris Sherwin has a rock to use as a weight. :)) I think if you pressed charges they would have a reason to seek revenge.

Yes I agree that pressing charges could possibly create a revenge situation. Hopefully these punks will stay away from our gear from now on. I also hope they don't get out of their car to brawl with us because their car might accidentally roll down the boat ramp to the bottom of the marina.
