Has anybody ridden the Sinks?

Hey, I was just up over to Bear Lake this weekend via Logan Canyon and passed by the Sinks - a huge groomed snowmobiling area. The place was large enough that it appeared there wouldn't be any conflict problems with any of the other riders if you were to kite there. Has anybody tried this area out, or know how consistent the winds are up there. It is right next to Beaver Mountain Ski resort. I'd be interested to know if anyone else has looked into this spot. It might be a good place for those of us North of SLC.

Nate,

My bro skis at Beaver all winter long and always takes his kites but says that there isn't too much wind in the area. Probably due to the enclosed space. You'd pretty much have to be on one of the ridges of which I don't believe there are too many easily accessible or big enough for kiting in Logan Canyon.

I've been wondering about Blacksmith Fork Canyon / Hardware Ranch, at the top of the canyon where the bilers go. If it is at all like the conditions Augie talks about at Monte Carlo which is south of Hardware Ranch, that would make an excellent place for No. Utah / Logan riders. I'm thinking of checking it out. If someone gets there before me, let us know how it is.

Nate,

The sinks are not the greatest place to go. Just like the name, they are giant sink holes which are protected from any good wind by the mountains. They are better in a north south wind, but are really gusty. I live in logan and I usually hike up to a really small ridge a couple miles past beaver. Not much room but it gets some good west winds a lot. If you are ever skiing at beaver and you see a yellow yarga in the air that would be me. I haven't seen another kiter the whole season.
