Hi Brent,

It's been Kited and crashed. The story I heard was of someone breaking both arms when
hurled into the nasty rocks. Grantsville is small and can be pretty gusty. I'm not saying you
can't kite it, and I don't have any real experience as to whether it should or should not be
kited, but the current Kiter crop do seem to avoid it.

I used to kite at Grants, but I gave up on it for several reasons:

1. The launch sucks for kites, it is a great place to shred a kite. The rocks are sharp and it is difficult to do a self-launch there without tearing up a kite. I have tried drift launching there as well, but that can be dangerous as there are rocks along the shore that can snag a line and/or the wind is often so strong that it will flip the kite initiating an unexpected hot-launch.
2. The wind is super spiky. It is not the type of gustiness that you get at DC or Rush, it is very short bursts. The type that causes you to elevator up high on a jump and then nothing for the return down.
3. The lulls can be brutal. I have drifted all the way down to the rock jetty many a time and then had to walk back on sharp stones that are uncomfortable to walk on even with booties.
4. The water is cold requiring a wetsuit for kiters because of the possibility of sitting in the water during a long lull.

I kite the places nobody else likes to kite. I still go to the salt ponds and I used to kite the stinky Lake Point Ponds until the property owner kicked me off. Bottomline, Grantsville is not a safe place to kite, nor is it a particularly enjoyable place to kite.

Kenny nailed it. I went to Grantsville earlier this summer. I did get a nice session in but I won't be going back. It's just too small. If you dump your kite or can't get it relaunched, there's only a short amount of time until you're dragged onto the other side. Heaven forbid the kite hot-launches anywhere near the North end. It could boost you over the rock wall and down a long way.

Thanks you guys for a great critique. I've seen it and pole boarded there and it makes perfect sense. Hey Case, can your lady friend make me a couple of those sand bags? I'd be stoked if she had time.
