3.6 UL 78L Lindon White Smoke (UPDATED WITH GOPRO VIDEO)

Postby Ben Cahoon » Sat Jun 09, 2012 8:04 pm

I think that is the biggest day I've ever sailed Utah Lake. It was absolutely huge. I was on a 78L board on a 4.1 and then a 3.6 and it was waaaaay too much. Brian and I sailed from 2:30 to 6:30.

Brad and Rod took a couple rides and were blown off the water. They needed much smaller boards.

Provo boat harbor was reading 35 gusting to 46. Saratoga was reading higher than that. Whatever it was, it was huge and amazing. Big air, survival in the brown chocolaty swells.

Both Brian and I feel good to have survived with minimal damage. We did put a fin through the 3.6 sail, but it should be able to get repaired. That beach is nasty. After all the improvements, morons still are discarding trash, beer bottles, etc. There was a lot of broken glass so be careful if launching from Lindon. Pelican point is definitely a better launch and rig.

Brian rescued a baby deer from the Geneva ponds. A kiter was going to take it to the animal shelter. Not sure if the little guy will survive or not.

It looks like a ski boat didn't watch the wind report and capsized. The Park rangers went out and looked they were searching around. Hopefully no one died.

On a positive note, I took some Go Pro video, so I'll see if it is any good. If so, I'll post it up!

Phew! What a day!!!!!!

Ben

Arrived around 5:30pm at Lindon Beach. Wind was 40+ with Brian and Ben pole boarding the big waves. Way too much for Kiting. As I was leaving I spotted a baby Deer stuck in the black mud near the reeds north of the beach. He was stuck to his nostrils. I went back and grabbed Brian to help in case I got stuck as well. We got it out and washed it in the lake water but he was skinny and shaking so took him to clinic nearby but they were closed and do not take wild animals. Contacted dispatch per pet clinic emergency recommendation but they said I could put him down if he is suffering. Took him back to area where I found him but he was unable to move so decided to take him home warm dry him off. In morning he could stand and read online to feed them goat milk which he drained a whole carton got his energy back started walking. Returned him back tonight where we found him, read online that the mother leaves them but always returns with 48 hours. Looked healthy will check back next few days to see that he and mother are reunited. Thanks Brian he would not have lasted another day..
