Maui Lessons?

Postby MikE mAy » Mon Apr 03, 2006 8:29 am

hey all, i've posted here a few times and have been trying to learn how to kiteboard. i've flown my trainer countless hours at different beaches and parks and even bought a kite last summer from the local naish rep (your name escapes me right now, sorry). right after i bought the kite last summer i ended up falling for a girl and unfortunately she took most of my time and i never flew the thing. we are now living together and i've got the time to get back to learning.

anyway, i'm heading out to maui in a few weeks and have lessons planned with kitesurf maui. i'm hoping to get the lessons and have enough knowledge to get over the hump of learning alone here.
can anyone reccomend any other places to take a lesson or two out there? any good friends that would hook me up with some gear while i'm there? i'm bringing my control bar to make sure i know how to use it and my harness just in case. i don't own a board yet, and my kite is 16m, which i would think would be a little big for maui. i think i can rent stuff from kitesurf maui.

anyway, any pointers would be great! i hope to meet more of you out on the water this summer.

laters,

Mike

I had a "lesson" with Hawaiian Island surf and sport. They did a decent job. I really just didn't want to haul my kite stuff and I was in the same boat as you by just having to big a kite for the conditions. They have a decent web site so google it if you are interested.

so mike- why do you put lessons in " " ? were they not that great of teachers? do they mostly teach you how to fly the trainer and take your $290? i'm planning on being out in the water within an hour....

Call my friend Linda Stott and mention Eric Christensen from Salt Lake. She can hook you up with private instruction. (808-280-7060)

Naish Kite

Postby Jon Manwaring » Thu Apr 06, 2006 8:52 am

Mike,
I think I sold you the kite last summer. It was either a 12 M or 16 M Naish V4. When you get back from Maui, give me a call and I'll work with you at RUSH. Have fun in the WARM water.

jon-

yea! that was you. first date with the "sidetrack from kiting" was the night before we met in the park with the kite. it was a 16M Naish you sold me with a naish control line. i'll for sure call you when i get back. i'm hoping i will have enough skills to not be embarassed around you guys out at rush. i'm bummed to have to wear a wetsuit.

maybe you can email me with what boards you guys have been using out here. i will be on the lookout for a used one out there. i've got a surfboard (strapless) but this will not be good to use here unless on very low wind days.

anyway, thanks and i'll give you a call when i get back.

I put it as "lesson" because I basically needed equipment and some supervision. Nobody is going to rent you a kite as far as I know and I don't have anything in the 6m-9m range. Plus, it saves you from hauling pump, board and bars on the plane. They did do a geat job and it is was nice to have a review, specially in that strong of wind.
