ALLEGEDLY, STOLEN KITE FOUND BY DRAPER DETECTIVE

This may be a bit of a conundrum here... This morning I received the following email from a Draper City detective who has recovered property from a search warrant. Is it yours or someone's you know? The conundrum is if it really is his gear!? I figured this would be the best way to find out. Contact the dtective:

I am a detective with Draper City Police.  I recently served a search warrant on a man’s home in South Salt Lake.  We found lots of stolen property, including a *BRAND* kite.  This person claimed the kite is his but could not accurately describe it.  The serial number has been cut off.  It looks and smells brand new.  It is *COLORS* in color.  It is a size *SIZE*.  It has a *BRAND* harness attached to it.  I have contacted all retailers in Utah and they are not missing any kites.  I’m hoping you may have heard of someone complaining theirs was stolen in the last 1-3 months.  I would like to find the owner, looks like these are pretty expensive, but it’s hard without the serial number.  Any help would be apprectiated.

Hum... Pretty suspicious. I can't think why anyone would cut the serial # off of a kite? Unless...

I had 3 kites, 2 boards, harness, wetsuit stolen out of my car in 2007. The kites were 2006 Cabrinhas; 7m and 9m Crossbows and 12m Switchblade.

I lost a Kahoona 11.5M off the top of my car out of my thule a year or so ago on i-15. I searched the side of the road for hours but someone had picked it up. Purple kite, red bag.
